Metal Gear Solid Delta’s Fox Hunt Mode Won’t Support Cross-Play at Launch

Konami confirms that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’s upcoming multiplayer mode, Fox Hunt, won’t feature cross-play between PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC when it launches this fall. Here’s what we know so far.

Konami has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater’s upcoming online multiplayer mode, Fox Hunt, will not support cross-play between PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. This means players will only be able to matchmake with others on the same platform when the mode eventually arrives later this year.

The announcement came via the official Metal Gear social media channels, just weeks ahead of the remake’s launch on August 28, 2025 (or 12 days earlier for Deluxe Edition owners). While the main game is set to release on schedule, Fox Hunt won’t be included at launch and is instead planned for a fall 2025 release. Konami has not yet indicated whether cross-play support could be added in a future update.

The lack of cross-play has sparked disappointment among fans, with many taking to social media to urge the developer to delay the mode until the feature can be implemented. Several players stressed that in 2025, cross-play is no longer considered an optional luxury but a standard expectation, especially for multiplayer modes where a split player base can quickly lead to dwindling matchmaking pools.

Fox Hunt was first unveiled during a PlayStation State of Play showcase in June before being given more screen time at Konami’s Summer Game Fest presentation. Directed by series veteran Yu Sahara, it’s described as a “completely original online battle mode” inspired by hide-and-seek gameplay, but with the tactical stealth and survival elements that define the Metal Gear franchise.

In Fox Hunt, players will use camouflage to blend seamlessly into the game’s environments, hide under the series’ iconic cardboard boxes, or even disguise themselves as objects like piles of rocks to evade detection. The mode draws loose inspiration from 2008’s Metal Gear Online but offers its own unique structure and objectives, focusing heavily on misdirection and environmental awareness.

Alongside Fox Hunt, Metal Gear Solid Delta will also include bonus side modes depending on platform. Snake Vs. Monkey, a mini-game from the original Metal Gear Solid 3, will be available on PS5 and PC, while Snake Vs. Bomberman, a newly created crossover mode, will be exclusive to Xbox Series X/S.

The remake itself has been in the works for over two years, with Konami promising a faithful recreation of the PS2 classic alongside modern visual enhancements. Despite the absence of series creator Hideo Kojima—who left Konami in 2015 after nearly three decades—the studio is billing Metal Gear Solid Delta as both a tribute to the original and an entry built for modern hardware.

While the cross-play decision for Fox Hunt is a notable setback for some, the mode’s unique blend of stealth, deception, and environmental gameplay could still attract a dedicated audience—provided the player base remains strong after launch. Whether Konami eventually reconsiders cross-play will be something fans keep a close eye on once Fox Hunt goes live later this fall.
