Capcom and JoyCity team up for Resident Evil: Survival Unit, a mobile real-time strategy game coming to iOS and Android. Here’s what we know ahead of its July 10 trailer reveal.
Capcom is once again expanding the Resident Evil universe, this time with a mobile real-time strategy spin-off titled Resident Evil: Survival Unit. Co-developed by Korean studio JoyCity and published in partnership with anime giant Aniplex, the game is headed to iOS and Android devices. While a release date has not yet been announced, the official reveal trailer is scheduled to premiere on July 10 at 3 PM PDT via YouTube.
Announced during Anime Expo 2025, Survival Unit promises a fresh take on the long-running survival horror franchise. According to Capcom, the game will offer a real-time strategy experience “optimized for mobile platforms” and designed to appeal to both longtime fans and newcomers alike. The partnership with JoyCity is particularly notable, as the studio previously developed Pirates of the Caribbean: Tides of War, a top-down strategy game that emphasizes resource management and base-building, hinting at what we might expect from this new Resident Evil title.
The announcement has certainly caught fans off guard, as few expected a strategy-based Resident Evil game, let alone one made exclusively for mobile. Still, interest remains high thanks to Capcom’s recent efforts to diversify the franchise and the inclusion of recognizable elements. Early promotional artwork teases a return to the franchise’s early roots, featuring a dark forest setting and a billboard advertising the Umbrella Corporation with the ominous slogan: “Our Business is Life Itself.” This suggests the game could be set prior to Resident Evil 4, during Umbrella’s active years, possibly in or around the infamous Arklay Mountains near Raccoon City.
While Survival Unit isn’t aiming to be a massive mainline release like the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem, slated for February 2026 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, it still holds potential as an experimental, story-driven offshoot. The game may allow players to command units such as STARS operatives in tactical battles across iconic horror environments, all while managing survival and strategic objectives.
The surprise announcement comes shortly after Capcom shut down the underperforming Resident Evil Re:Verse, leaving fans skeptical about the company’s mobile ambitions. Still, the collaboration with JoyCity and Aniplex indicates a serious commitment to quality and global reach, with Survival Unit set to launch across North America, Japan, Europe, Asia, and South Korea.
As mobile gaming continues to grow and strategy titles thrive on touchscreen interfaces, Resident Evil: Survival Unit could become the franchise’s next cult favorite, if executed well. The reveal trailer on July 10 will likely provide the first look at gameplay mechanics, characters, and perhaps a glimpse at how Capcom plans to weave its iconic horror themes into an RTS format.
Whether you’re a die-hard Resident Evil fan or just curious about the franchise’s genre leap, Survival Unit is one title to keep your eye on this summer.
