Sony’s August 2025 PS Plus Extra and Premium update brings Mortal Kombat 1, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Sword of the Sea, Resident Evil 2, and more to subscribers starting August 19th.
Sony has unveiled the latest wave of games joining the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium/Deluxe Game Catalog, and August 2025’s lineup is shaping up to be one of the strongest in recent memory. Starting August 19th, subscribers will gain access to a diverse mix of blockbuster hits, acclaimed indie gems, and beloved classics.
The headliners are two major titles that need little introduction. NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat 1, the soft reboot of the legendary fighting series, makes its debut in the service following news that it has sold over 6.2 million copies worldwide. Joining it is Marvel’s Spider-Man, marking its return to PS Plus after leaving in April 2023. PS5 subscribers will receive Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, featuring enhanced visuals and performance, while PS4 subscribers will get the Game of the Year Edition, which includes all story DLC.
Also launching day one for PS Plus Extra and Premium members is Sword of the Sea, the latest project from Giant Squid, the studio behind The Pathless and Abzû. This atmospheric adventure arrives on PS5 and PC the same day, offering players a serene yet exhilarating surfing-based traversal experience.
RPG fans will have plenty to enjoy as well. Unicorn Overlord from Vanillaware, Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key, and the farming life sim Coral Island all join the catalog, alongside quirky narrative-driven titles like Indika and Harold Halibut. For action fans, Earth Defense Force 6 delivers chaotic alien-blasting fun on both PS4 and PS5.
Premium-tier subscribers have even more to look forward to. In addition to all the Extra games, they’ll get access to two iconic PlayStation 1 classics: Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. These original versions feature modern enhancements such as quick save, custom display filters, rewind functionality, and up-rendering, ensuring a smoother experience without losing their retro charm.
There’s also a special treat for Premium members — a five-hour game trial for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. While it’s not a full addition to the library, it offers a chance to experience the highly anticipated sequel before deciding to purchase.
