Build A Rocket Boy’s MindsEye launches June 10, but it’s just the beginning of a 10-year plan featuring a deep narrative, open-world multiplayer, and player-created content. Here’s everything you need to know.
Build A Rocket Boy is setting its sights high with MindsEye, the ambitious narrative-driven game launching June 10 for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Led by former Grand Theft Auto producer Leslie Benzies, the studio isn’t treating MindsEye as a standalone title — it’s just the beginning of a massive, interconnected 10-year storytelling journey that blends narrative depth, user-generated content, and open-world multiplayer experiences.
In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Benzies emphasized that MindsEye is “bang in the middle” of a much larger narrative arc. This saga is set to explore an expansive timeline — going back 10,000 years and then projecting forward — placing MindsEye as a pivotal chapter within a grander universe. While specific details are being withheld to avoid spoilers, Benzies teased that the overall story will include “unusual twists” and interwoven tales that evolve over time.
The game’s content rollout will continue well after launch. Benzies confirmed that much of MindsEye’s additional content will tie directly into the overarching narrative. Even smaller elements like races, though sometimes created just for fun, will often support the larger story. “Once you’ve played the big overarching ten-year plan, you’ll have a very good idea of what this universe looks like,” he noted.
One of the most compelling elements of Build A Rocket Boy’s vision is the integration of player-generated content. The studio aims to make content creation intuitive and enjoyable, allowing users to design their own missions and experiences within the game world. “The dream is to let players build their own multiplayer open-world games with ease,” said Benzies. “Once you’ve built a couple hundred of these, you’ve basically made your own open-world game.”
Alongside single-player and creation tools, multiplayer is a key focus for the future. An open-world multiplayer title is planned for release in 2026, set one year after the events of MindsEye. To bridge the narrative and gameplay gap, a separate open-world free-roam title will also be released. These games will expand on the universe established in MindsEye while encouraging social interaction, collaborative gameplay, and shared storytelling.
The studio has kept much of the experience under wraps to preserve the mystery, but the roadmap points to a layered and evolving world. Benzies and his team are committed to delivering a value-rich experience without unnecessary filler, driven by a combination of studio-created and community-generated stories.
With its official launch just around the corner and a massive decade-long plan already in motion, MindsEye is shaping up to be far more than a single game — it’s the foundation of a universe designed to grow, shift, and surprise players for years to come.
