Marvel Rivals Season 3: Phoenix, Blade, and the Rise of the Abyss Begins July 11

Marvel Rivals Season 3: The Abyss Awakens launches July 11, adding Phoenix and Blade to the hero roster. Discover the new storyline, characters, skins, and more in this action-packed seasonal update.

Marvel Rivals, the fast-paced hero shooter from NetEase Games, is back with Season 3: The Abyss Awakens, set to begin on July 11 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. This season ushers in a cosmic conflict that introduces two long-anticipated characters: Jean Grey as Phoenix and the legendary vampire hunter Blade.

The storyline takes players to Klyntar, the symbiote homeworld, where Knull, the God of the Symbiotes, plots to engulf the universe in darkness. He crowns Hela, the Asgardian Goddess of Death, as his “Queen in Black,” fusing her deathly powers with the corruptive influence of the symbiotes. In response, Phoenix arrives wielding the power of the Phoenix Force, aiming to burn away the encroaching darkness. But the fiery mutant soon meets resistance from Hela, setting the stage for a thrilling showdown.

Just when all seems lost, Blade enters the fray. The half-vampire warrior, known for his trench coat, sword, and brooding presence, awakens to lend his deadly talents to Phoenix’s cause. The teaser trailer shows Blade wielding a flaming sword and demonstrating what appears to be vampiric transformation mechanics, hinting at a unique in-game moveset yet to be detailed.

While Phoenix is expected to debut at the launch of Season 3, Blade is slated to arrive in a mid-season update, following the release cadence seen in earlier seasons. The cinematic trailer doesn’t show gameplay just yet, but fans can expect iconic abilities, flashy team-ups, and plenty of Marvel-style spectacle when they go hands-on with the new additions.

Beyond characters, The Abyss Awakens also introduces exciting skins and cosmetic content. Notable highlights include:

  • Hela’s Queen in Black skin, a dark and elegant redesign that echoes her allegiance to Knull.
  • Phoenix-themed costumes for Wolverine and Magik, glowing with cosmic fire.
  • Jeff the Land Shark sports an adorable symbiote skin because even chaos needs a little cuteness.
  • Captain America dons his Captain Klyntar outfit, first seen in Edge of Venomverse #1.
  • Spider-Man receives new Future Foundation skins in both white and black, originally from FF #1.

Despite some concerns about rapid character releases and balancing, the community response has been largely enthusiastic. Blade’s absence during earlier Dracula-themed events had left fans puzzled, making his arrival in Season 3 all the more impactful. Both Blade and Phoenix were the subject of leaks and speculation for months, and now, they’re finally official.

Marvel Rivals continues to carve out its niche among hero shooters with visually creative reinventions of beloved Marvel icons. With The Abyss Awakens, the game raises the stakes, expands the roster, and dives deeper into the symbiote-fueled storyline, proving it’s far from slowing down.
