Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, the highly anticipated action-adventure game from Skydance New Media, has been delayed to early 2026. Here’s everything we know about the delay, gameplay details, and what to expect next.
Marvel fans will have to wait a little longer to dive into the wartime adventure of Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. Originally scheduled for release in 2025, developer Skydance New Media has officially announced that the game has been delayed to early 2026. In a statement posted to social media, the team explained that the delay will allow for additional polish to ensure the final product lives up to their ambitious vision.
“Taking this additional time will allow us to add more polish and make sure we give you the best possible experience,” Skydance said. While delays are never ideal, the studio promises that more updates, including new trailers and gameplay reveals, are on the horizon.
The project is being led by Amy Hennig, best known for her work on the Uncharted series, adding significant weight to the game’s pedigree. This will be Skydance New Media’s debut title, developed using Unreal Engine 5 to deliver a high-fidelity, cinematic experience where players may “forget that they’re looking at a game,” as Hennig previously stated.
First teased in 2021, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is set during World War II and promises a unique multi-protagonist experience. Players will control Steve Rogers (Captain America), Azzuri (T’Challa’s grandfather and the Black Panther of the era), Gabriel Jones (a member of the Howling Commandos), and Nanali (a Wakandan spy leader). The story unfolds across iconic locations such as occupied Paris and Wakanda, with more destinations yet to be revealed.
Despite being in development for several years, information on the game has been sparse. A cinematic story trailer released during a previous State of Unreal showcase offered a tantalizing glimpse, but gameplay footage remains unseen. Actor Khary Payton, who voices Azzuri, had previously hinted at a late 2025 release, but that plan has now shifted.
The delay isn’t entirely unexpected, especially given the lack of gameplay reveals and updates leading into mid-2025. While fans may be disappointed by the wait, many in the gaming community view delays as a necessary move to ensure quality, especially in a market where rushed releases often result in poor player experiences.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra joins a growing list of major titles now scheduled for 2026, including Fable and Grand Theft Auto VI. While that means 2025 is losing some heavy-hitters, 2026 is shaping up to be an epic year for gaming.
Skydance has promised more information soon, possibly during upcoming events like Summer Game Fest. Until then, fans can take solace in knowing the team is working hard to deliver a polished and immersive Marvel adventure unlike anything before.
