Gears of War: Reloaded launches August 26 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC with enhanced 4K visuals, 120 FPS multiplayer, and full crossplay. Here’s everything you need to know.
After months of speculation, Microsoft has officially announced Gears of War: Reloaded, a fully remastered edition of the original Gears of War launching on August 26, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Marking a historic shift, this is the first time the legendary Xbox-exclusive franchise is coming to PlayStation.
Priced at $39.99, Reloaded will be available day one on Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. In a generous move for longtime fans, players who own the digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition (purchased before May 5 at 4 PM UTC) will receive a free upgrade to Reloaded.
Co-developed by The Coalition, Sumo Interactive, and Disbelief, Gears of War: Reloaded is being touted as the definitive version of the game that launched the franchise nearly two decades ago. It includes all content from the 2015 Ultimate Edition, plus every post-launch DLC, including additional multiplayer maps, characters, and cosmetics. It also retains the bonus campaign act originally released with the PC version.
This remaster boasts major technical enhancements, designed to take full advantage of modern hardware. The campaign runs at 4K resolution and 60 FPS, while multiplayer supports up to 120 FPS. Players can also expect HDR, Dolby Vision, 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos, 3D Spatial Audio, and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). Additional improvements include super resolution anti-aliasing, remastered textures, improved shadows and reflections, enhanced post-processing effects, and, most impressively, zero loading screens during the campaign.
The game will feature cross-play and cross-progression across all platforms, enabled through Microsoft accounts. However, signing in is optional if players wish to remain offline or stick to a single platform. Microsoft has also hinted at platform-specific enhancements, with speculation suggesting support for DualSense features on PS5 and potential PS5 Pro upgrades.
Gears of War: Reloaded offers two-player campaign co-op and supports up to eight players in multiplayer, both locally and online. With the full suite of visual, audio, and performance improvements, this edition aims to modernize the gritty, chainsaw-fueled action that made the original a genre-defining classic.
As part of the buildup to the franchise’s 20th anniversary in 2026, Reloaded acts as both a celebration of Gears’ legacy and an invitation to a broader audience. “With Gears of War: Reloaded, we’re opening that door to more players than ever,” said The Coalition studio head Mike Crump.
This announcement also follows the reveal of Gears of War: E-Day, a new prequel title set 14 years before the events of the original game, with returning characters like Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, and co-development from People Can Fly.
With Reloaded arriving this August, fans both old and new can prepare to re-experience the brutal world of Sera; this time, in its most polished and widely accessible form yet.
