Ubisoft’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora receives a major free update on December 5th, adding a long-awaited third-person mode and New Game+. Explore Pandora like never before with revamped camera systems, tougher enemies, and new skills.
Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment have announced a major free update for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, arriving on December 5th across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. This highly anticipated update introduces two key features fans have long requested: a third-person mode and a robust New Game+ mode.
Timed to coincide with the third anniversary of the game’s release, and launching just ahead of the next Avatar movie, Fire and Ash, which hits theaters on December 19, the update is part of Ubisoft’s ongoing efforts to evolve and enrich the Frontiers of Pandora experience.
The third-person mode fundamentally changes the way players experience Pandora. Instead of the default first-person perspective, players can now control their Na’vi character from a behind-the-back viewpoint. This shift isn’t just cosmetic; Massive Entertainment has gone to great lengths to rework the animations, camera systems, audio, and controls to ensure that the third-person experience feels fluid and immersive. With a simple toggle, players can now see their fully customized Na’vi as they jump, climb, and battle across the lush alien world.
Complementing this is the introduction of New Game+, a feature designed to offer replay value and additional challenges. Players who’ve completed the main campaign can dive back into the story while retaining all previously acquired weapons, skills, and inventory. But it’s not just a victory lap; stronger enemies await, requiring players to adapt and evolve using a new skill tree and access to more powerful gear.
Creative director Omar Bouali emphasized the community-driven motivation behind the update:
“We’ve always envisioned Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora as a living world that evolves with our players. This update is a celebration of our community’s passion, and we’re thankful to our players for their support.”
This update follows the successful release of The Sky Breaker and Secrets of the Spires, two expansions that further developed the game’s story and mechanics. Since launch, Frontiers of Pandora has also benefited from other quality-of-life improvements, including a revamped Hunter’s Guide and a 40fps mode for console players; both designed to enhance gameplay fluidity and exploration.
With this update, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora continues to grow into the expansive and immersive world Ubisoft promised. Whether you’re a newcomer or a returning player looking for fresh perspective and challenges, this December update delivers exciting reasons to jump back into the rich alien wilderness of Pandora.
As anticipation builds for Avatar: Fire and Ash, the game now offers a perfect interactive complement to James Cameron’s cinematic universe; bridging the gap between film and gameplay in meaningful new ways.
