Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Scarlet is rumored to be the franchise’s next major RPG, set after Hexe, possibly spanning India, the Mediterranean, and the Aztec Empire. Here’s everything we know so far.
Following the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Ubisoft is gearing up for a massive expansion of its flagship franchise. The next major RPG installment is reportedly Assassin’s Creed Scarlet, and it’s poised to continue the action-RPG legacy that titles like Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla established. According to a roadmap leaked by industry insider Tom Henderson, Scarlet will arrive after Hexe and its post-launch support, ushering in a new era for the franchise.
Though officially unannounced, Assassin’s Creed Scarlet has reportedly been greenlit and is already in production. While solid details remain scarce, Henderson speculates that Scarlet could be the rumored Assassin’s Creed Nebula, a game said to feature three distinct historical settings: India, the Mediterranean, and the Aztec Empire. If true, this would mark the first time an Assassin’s Creed title blends multiple locations and cultures on such an ambitious scale since Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
Ubisoft is reportedly planning to release a major RPG every two to three years, and Scarlet fits squarely into that strategy. It will follow Hexe, a darker, more linear entry set to launch after two years of DLC support for Shadows. Hexe itself will have one year of additional content, placing Scarlet‘s release window approximately three years after Shadows.
The focus on Scarlet comes amid a larger strategic shift for Ubisoft. Over the next six years, the publisher is said to be developing nine Assassin’s Creed titles across various genres. These include three remakes, such as the Black Flag remake codenamed Obsidian, and two multiplayer experiences: Invictus, a 16-player competitive title inspired by Fall Guys, and Emerald, potentially a PvE co-op experience. Smaller single-player entries and a mobile game (Jade, set in China) round out the roadmap.
Ubisoft’s aggressive expansion comes after a relatively quiet decade for the franchise, with only Valhalla (2020), Mirage (2023), and Shadows (2025) as mainline entries so far. However, Shadows has reportedly performed well, topping sales charts and reenergizing Ubisoft’s faith in the IP.
Whether Scarlet is indeed Nebula or a new concept entirely, it appears to be the next pillar in Assassin’s Creed’s modern RPG lineage. Its rumored triple-setting design promises a fresh approach to world-building and player exploration, potentially pushing the series into new narrative and mechanical territory.
With development underway and Ubisoft doubling down on the Assassin’s Creed brand, all eyes are now on Scarlet. If it delivers on its early promise, it could set a bold new standard for open-world historical RPGs.
