MindsEye Leaks Reveal GTA-Style Combat and Driving Weeks Ahead of Launch

New leaked gameplay footage of MindsEye, the debut title from ex-Rockstar president Leslie Benzies, reveals third-person shooting, driving, and story details. Here’s what fans are saying ahead of its June 10 release.

With its release date rapidly approaching, MindsEye had remained something of a mystery until now. The debut title from Build a Rocket Boy, the new studio led by former Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies, finally had gameplay footage surface online via a Twitch leak. Originally sent to a streamer known as AMP, the footage was mistakenly shared and quickly went viral across Reddit and social media, giving players their first real glimpse of the game’s mechanics and world.

The leaked gameplay showcases both MindsEye‘s third-person combat and open-world driving. The combat appears to be cover-based, featuring the protagonist, Jacob Diaz, swapping weapons, blowing up vehicles, and engaging in typical action-shooter gunplay. While some viewers praised its clean presentation, others criticized it as basic and lacking in polish, particularly pointing out underwhelming hit reactions.

The driving, however, sparked more positive comparisons. Fans immediately noticed similarities to the Grand Theft Auto series, with city navigation, lighting, and reflections that evoke the feel of Rockstar’s open-world staples. The footage also includes a brief in-game conversation between Jacob and a character named Claudia, hinting at the game’s narrative focus and lighthearted tone; one exchange even includes a joke about social media.

For a title releasing on June 10th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, the lack of official gameplay or strong marketing has been a point of concern. Many commenters expressed surprise that they hadn’t heard much about MindsEye, especially given Benzies’ pedigree and the game’s AAA aspirations. Published by IO Interactive and priced at $59.99, the title will also offer a Deluxe Edition upgrade and premium content as pre-order bonuses.

Despite the skepticism, some players are cautiously optimistic. With GTA 6 officially delayed, MindsEye has a window of opportunity to capture players hungry for a story-driven, chaotic open-world experience. The game is said to be around 15 hours long and aims to deliver a “meaningful, well-crafted story.” Comparisons have also been drawn to Watch Dogs, thanks to the urban setting and tech-themed dialogue.

Still, the reception to the leaked gameplay has been mixed. While the visuals and driving mechanics have been praised, the combat drew criticism for feeling dated or unpolished. However, fans also acknowledged that the footage might not reflect the final version of the game.

With just weeks to go before release, and no official gameplay deep dive from the developers, MindsEye finds itself in a curious position. It could be a sleeper hit or fade into the crowded 2025 release schedule unnoticed. Either way, with the GTA community watching closely, it has one last chance to make a lasting impression before launch.

Stay tuned for official gameplay; hopefully soon.
