Bandai Namco and FromSoftware reveal new trailers for Recluse and Duchess—two of eight playable characters in Elden Ring: Nightreign, the upcoming PvPvE roguelike launching May 30 on PC and consoles.
Elden Ring: Nightreign is steadily building anticipation ahead of its May 30 launch, and recent trailers have introduced players to two more of its eight unique characters, or “Nightfarers.” The newly spotlighted characters—Recluse and Duchess—bring distinct playstyles to this unexpected but intriguing spin-off set in the Elden Ring universe.
Developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco, Nightreign represents a notable departure from the original game’s formula. Instead of a vast, open-world RPG, it’s a PvPvE multiplayer roguelike focused on survival, strategic progression, and punishing difficulty. Designed as a standalone title, Nightreign will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, with DLC planned for Q4 2025 featuring additional characters and bosses.
The newly released character trailers showcase Nightreign’s growing cast of Nightfarers, focusing on the arcane magic-wielder Recluse and the swift, stealthy Duchess.
Recluse is a master of ancient blood magic and elemental forces. The class thrives on draining the essence from enemies and converting it into devastating spell attacks. In the trailer, Recluse demonstrates the ability to unleash explosive energy waves, immobilize foes with dark tendrils, and hurl deadly arcane projectiles across the battlefield—perfect for players who enjoy a methodical, high-skill magic-focused playstyle.
In contrast, Duchess embodies precision and agility. Operating like a shadow in the night, she excels in quick, close-quarters takedowns. Her trailer highlights her rapid dashes, blink-style evasions, and lightning-fast blade strikes—ideal for those who prefer sneaky flanking tactics and assassination-style gameplay.
These two characters join the previously revealed Ironeye and Raider. Ironeye is a calm, deadly archer built for ranged dominance, while Raider is a brute-force melee fighter who thrives in chaotic frontline combat.
Elden Ring: Nightreign introduces a fresh gameplay structure involving a three-day-and-night survival cycle. Players can team up in squads of three or play solo, choosing a Nightfarer and diving into dangerous, ever-changing biomes. Each day ends in a brutal boss encounter, and surviving to the third day culminates in a final showdown with a terrifying Nightlord.
The game incorporates roguelike elements such as permanent upgrades and relics earned from failed runs. These relics allow players to fine-tune each Nightfarer’s build, encouraging experimentation and progression even after defeat.
With a growing cast of playable characters, a new gameplay loop, and the signature challenge FromSoftware is known for, Elden Ring: Nightreign is shaping up to be a bold evolution of the beloved franchise. As excitement builds and more Nightfarers are revealed, fans can look forward to a unique blend of roguelike strategy and brutal action come May 30.
